IT'S ALL IN THE FAMILY Paul Cluver Wines are the product of a close-knit family with a visionary, pioneering spirit. The company is run not only by owners Paul and Songvei, their three daughters and son, but also by the people who work on De Rust Estate. Together they form a family – the Cluver family. In tune with each other and with the vineyards, the terroir and all that counts in making quality wines, offering first-class entertainment and providing luxurious accommodation, it’s all in the family, with four of five Clüver siblings at the centre of the Elgin estate’s success, following founding father Dr Paul Clüver’s vision closely, constantly nurtured by mother Songvei, who also nurtures the community, and strengthened by Andries Burger, award-winning winemaker. Each specialises in one aspect of the business, making it greater than the sum of its parts. Paul Clüver IV has taken over from his neurosurgeon and apple farmer father as managing director; Liesl Clüver Rust is marketing manager; Inge Clüver Burger is financial manager and Karin Cluver is production manager. Andries Burger, married to Inge, qualified in viticulture and oenology at the University of Stellenbosch and was already a rising star when he began working with the Cluver estate. He focuses on expressing the Elgin terroir by creating wines with fruit intensity, balance and elegance. |
