Jancis Robinson rates Paul Cluver Sauvignon blanc 2008
The ‘Greatest White Wine Buys' for the entertaining season - as selected by the doyenne of wine - was published in the London Financial Times this past weekend. From her annual tasting rate of close to 10 000 wines, Jancis Robinson deliberately selected wines that are drinking well now.
Of the list of 77 white wines, only eight were South African, and only one from Elgin. The highest score allocated was 17.5. Jancis scored the Cluver Sauvignon blanc 17.
Having achieved consistent 4 star Platter rating over the last couple of years, and following Decanter recognition as the best new world Sauvignon blanc last year, this latest endorsement testifies to the Cluver commitment to ongoing excellence. Furthermore, it testifies to the longevity of Sauvignon blanc from Elgin.
In South Africa, this wine retails for R65-R70 and can still be bought direct from the cellar.
